(UPDATE) -- A 30-year-old Lafayette woman was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder for the New Year's Day morning stabbing on Roy Street.

According to Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton, Ronkeisha Lavine and the victim were involved in some type of disturbance at about 2 a.m. Wednesday when Lavine allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object.

Lavine took the victim to the hospital at about 6 a.m., where police were finally contacted, Mouton said.

The victim remains in the hospital in critical condition, Mouton said.

(ORIGINAL) -- Lafayette Police are beginning 2014 investigating an early morning stabbing that occurred in the 100 block of Roy Street.

Police say around 2:30am, the victim was stabbed in the chest with a sharp object by a woman during a domestic dispute.

Police were not notified of the incident until about 5:00am when the victim went to a local hospital for treatment. He is listed in critical condition.

No charges have been filed yet in this case as the investigation continues.
