Lafayette Parish School System administrators and the Lafayette Police Department quickly stifled any threats about a firearm on campus at Lafayette Middle School.

LPSS Chief Administrative Officer Joe Craig said the school had received reports of a gun being seen on campus Wednesday afternoon.

School and district staff alerted Lafayette police who investigated the allegation.

No gun was found on the campus.

"Student safety is a priority and we take every report seriously," Craig said. "We will continue to work to keep our students safe. We encourage parents and students to report any type of safety issue to administration.
