Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory says he is following the guidance of Dr. Tina Stefanski and is quarantining after coming into close contact with a member of the local media who Guillory says tested positive for COVID-19.

The close contact came at the swearing-in ceremony for the Lafayette City Marshal Reggie Thomas on Friday. According to a press release from Guillory's office, "that individual was in direct contact with someone who tested positive and was directed to follow CDC guidelines for isolation. Shortly after the event, a second COVID-19 test for the same individual was positive."

Guillory says he was not notified of his potential exposure until Dr. Stefanski contacted him Tuesday afternoon, which Guillory's office says is contrary to "misinformation circulating on social media."

According to the press release, Guillory has had no symptoms and tested negative after the first of two COVID-19 tests was given to him on Tuesday night. The other test, at Dr. Stefanski's medical advice, is to be given 48 hours apart. Dr. Stefanski also says Guillory should remain in quarantine until Saturday, January 16, at minimum, where he says he continues to remotely conduct his daily duties of the office while staying in communication with other elected officials and providing direction to department heads.
