Lafayette Man, Brother Of NFL Player Killed In New Orleans

Robert Smith, 38, was shot to death in New Orleans Monday morning.

According to KATC:

Smith was the brother of former New York Jets player Courtney Smith, the Times Picayune reports. According to Courtney Smith, the victim was a resident of Lafayette.

A story on NOLA.com says the shooting took place outside a home on Lamb Street. NOPD told the newspaper that officers found a man lying on the front yard with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Courtney Smith told the newspaper that his older brother was a welder in Lafayette and was visiting their mother for Christmas. They grew up in the Desire housing project before moving to New Orleans East, Courtney Smith said. Robert Smith studied at George Washington Carver High School, where he played football, his brother said.
