While Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has focused his energies to date solely on movies and TV shows based on Marvel characters, it looks like that is about to change. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Feige is collaborating with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy on a Star Wars movie.

THR asked Disney about a meeting Feige had with Kennedy and other Disney executives, and Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn responded with this quote:

We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.

It makes a lot of sense for Disney to get Feige, whose track record as the producer of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe is basically unprecedented in Hollywood history, to try his luck at Star Wars. It’s no secret that Kevin Feige loves Star Wars — just look at how many references there are to The Empire Strikes Back in the MCU — and while Disney’s early Star Wars movies have been gigantic hits, some of the more recent productions have been less stellar. Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office, and some fans have been extremely vocal about their dislike for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. If you’re looking for someone to give the series a creative shot in the arm, it’s hard to think of someone more qualified.

There’s no concrete information about when we might see Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie but it is certainly several years off. Lucasfilm is also developing Star Wars films with the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and with Rian Johnson, writer and director of The Last Jedi. (Of course, there’s no reason Feige couldn’t collaborate with either of those teams as producer, which could be very interesting in and of itself.) If Feige’s Star Wars does pan out, it would certainly be one of the most anticipated films — for both Marvel and Star Wars fans — in quite a while.
