(KTDY) - Beachgoers from Louisiana love to flock to Destin, Florida, during the summer months, and one attraction there is "Crab Island" because of the shallow and gorgeous water.

If you visit Destin, it is worth spending the day on the sandbar, especially if you have kids, because the water is shallow and very clear. In addition to the water, there are now many attractions on the "island," including water slides, inflatable castles, and more.

Now, if you visit Crab Island in the fall or winter, the water may be gorgeous and cold, but it can be very shallow, making it difficult to reach the popular sandbar. In the Fall and Winter, northerly winds can drive water out of the bay, making it very shallow. Then you throw in a low tide, and the water becomes even shallower.

Well, this is precisely what happened a few days ago in Destin. A low tide and consistent north winds drained some areas along the coast, and, like many who live in the Destin, Florida area, I have never seen this happen to Crab Island.

The water in the bay and along the coast was so shallow that Crab Island actually became an island. The raised portion of the sandbar was as dry as I have ever seen it, and one man braved the elements to document this. You can see that the sandbar is surrounded by water, but where many of you may have docked your boat for the day was as dry as a bone.

Many suggested that it would have been a great day to have a metal detector there, as many have lost rings, watches, and other valuables while out on Crab Island.

So, take a look at Crab Island in Destin as you've never seen it before. And yes, I am somewhat jealous of this guy for being able to experience this low tide, even if temperatures were in the upper 20s on the day he documented this.

Let's take a look at more photos from along the Gulf Coast, where water was pushed out by low tide and strong north winds.  Water levels are expected to rise back up this week in areas that were "drained," but what a sight.

And there's this video that shows the shore dry. While it may be concerning, water levels do this often, but this time it seems a bit more extreme and rare. Wow.
