Breaux Bridge Man Arrested in Death of Infant Found in Car
UPDATE: Ervin Melancon, 53, was taken into custody by the Broussard Police Department on Sunday and transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith says that Melancon has booked with second-degree murder charges.
ORIGINAL STORY: The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received a call on Saturday, May 8 at approximately 2:30 pm of a suspicious car.
Deputies were dispatched to the vehicle that was located near the Intracoastal Bridge on Highway 317.
Upon arrival, they found a deceased infant's body inside the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office notified detectives and an investigation has been opened.
Around midnight, Sheriff Blaise Smith announced that a warrant has been issued for the suspect.
Ervin Melancon, 53, of Breaux Bridge, is wanted on the charge of Second-Degree Murder.
