According to the Vermilion Parish School Board, James A. Herod Elementary school in Abbeville, is on lockdown due to a suspicious looking person spotted on campus.

UPDATE from KATC: Herod Elementary is no longer on lockdown, after officials say they've identified the person who jumped the fence this morning. We're told it was a city worker who was checking the meters at the school, and he jumped the fence because it was locked.

Abbeville Police say an unidentified black male was seen entering the school campus by jumping the fence, and they are searching for him door-to-door.

According to police, the man came onto the campus at 10:13 a.m. and that no one saw him leave. Officers said the man is reportedly unarmed and wearing some sort of uniform shirt with writing on it.
