Mardi Gras will take over Louisiana on Tuesday, February 28th. It will be a day filled with floats, cold beer, good food, lots of beads and pancakes. Wait, pancakes? Well, you'll be eating pancakes if you're celebrating Shrove Tuesday.

Shrove Tuesday, or in some countries called Pancake Day, is celebrated around the world on the same day we celebrate Mardi Gras. It's even celebrated around the U.S. The reason why the two are the same day is because, basically they're the same holiday. The major difference is that if you're celebrating Shrove Tuesday, you'll be consuming stacks of pancakes all day instead of cold beer.

The word shrove is a form of the English word shrive, which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by way of confession and doing penance.

Shrove Tuesday is a day, just like Mardi Gras, to live it up before Lent. I guess to some, living it up means to eat yourself silly with pancakes. Hey, I'm not completely against it. Just think of the possibilities!

From wikipedia -

This movable festival is determined by Easter. The expression "Shrove Tuesday" comes from the word shrive, meaning "absolve".[1] Shrove Tuesday is observed by many Christians, including Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists and Roman Catholics,[2] who "make a special point of self-examination, of considering what wrongs they need to repent, and what amendments of life or areas of spiritual growth they especially need to ask God's help in dealing with."[3]
