Jim Varney as Ernest P. Worrell was amazing to me as a kid. His rubber face, and impressions were like nothing I'd ever seen. It seems that Hollywood will once again destroy a piece of my childhood, as Rucksfilm has green lit Son Of Ernest to continue in his dads whacky footsteps...ughhh. I remember when Jim Varney died, how upset it made me. Even being in high school at the time, he was a large part of my childhood. I'm pretty sure I'd seen every Ernest movie there was. Ernest Goes To Camp was my favorite, seconded by Ernest Goes To Jail, and for some reason Ernest Scared Stupid and Ernest Saves Christmas always kept me occupied during those respected holidays. Now this...BOOM! Right in the childhood!!!

As the title makes painfully explicit, the idea is to continue the tradition of mugging for the camera and occasionally getting incarcerated by centering on Ernest's offspring in a film that writer Dan Ewen boldly claims will not suck, saying, "We plan to honor the originals and Jim Varney while birthing a new chapter that lies somewhere between not sucking and Earth-shatteringly funny." The obvious question of casting a replacement Varney has yet to be addressed...
