Drinking and driving is never a good idea but law enforcement around Acadiana will be cracking down on drivers who drive impaired.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be paying close attention to impaired drivers on the roadways over the next few days.

This is all part of their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign.

This campaign is currently underway right now and will continue through the Labor Day holiday.

During this time frame, law enforcement agencies will be patrolling the roads looking for impaired drivers. There will be more police on the roadways who will be conducting high visibility patrols and sobriety checkpoints. Police agencies will respond with zero tolerance to drivers who choose to drive impaired due to alcohol or narcotics.

Here are the initiatives being taken by local law enforcement:
Lafayette Police: High visibility patrols within city limits (August 19 – September 5)
Rayne Police: Sobriety checkpoint within city limits (August 27, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.) (Funded by a grant from LHSC)

The "Drive Sober or Get Pull Over" Campaign started on Friday, August 19, 2022, and will end on Monday, September 5, 2022.
