Dave Lombardo on New Slayer Disc: ‘You Might as Well Just Pick Up the Last Album’
As fans anxiously await the new Slayer album, it seems like former drummer Dave Lombardo is offering more updates than the band is! Although Lombardo claims to have worked heavily on the new record before his ousting from Slayer, the drummer still degraded the upcoming effort by saying, "If you wanna listen to this album, you might as well just pick up the last album. It's nothing new."
We've heard one piece of Slayer's upcoming 11th album, but since the debut and free download of 'Implode' back in April, no new offerings have been made. Thankfully, we know that Slayer have been hard at work, posting photos of the band's recent recording sessions.
Slayer fans won't be expecting any drastic stylistic changes for the band's 11th album, nor would we even want it, but during an interview with Metal Wani, Dave Lombardo devalued Slayer's new work. "I, quite honestly, don't have an opinion about the music," said the drummer. "What I do know is that we've been working on those same songs that they're recording on now. I've worked on those songs since 2011, with Kerry, so those songs are not new. All they're doing is replacing my drums; that's all they're doing. They're replacing my drums with the other drummer [Paul Bostaph]."
Lombardo continues, "I mean, I have all the tracks, I have all the songs. It's typical Slayer. If you wanna listen to this album, you might as well just pick up the last album. It's nothing new."
Dave Lombardo just released the new album 'Fire From the Evening Sun' with Philm. As for Slayer, the thrash legends will soon hit the road with Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus for a string of U.S. tour dates.
