Hurricane Delta is once again expected to knock out power for thousands. Delta comes six weeks after Hurricane Laura knocked out power for over 500,000 Lousiana customers. Entergy CEO Philip May says while the power has been restored, crews are still performing grid work.

“As soon as the threat from Hurricane Delta passes, we will be moving those folks right back in to continue to the progress we are making there,” said May.

May says about 75% of towers and transmission systems have been replaced with equipment to now withstand winds of 140-150 to miles per hour.

“We’re confident that with what we have in place right now we’ll be able to serve our customers’ needs, contingent upon what we see coming out of Hurricane Delta,” said May.

May says Entergy’s Louisiana utilities are prepared to mobilize a storm team of about 10,000 employees and contractors to respond to any impacts from Hurricane Delta.

Cleco Spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says they are also prepared to respond for anticipated outages.

“We’ve added nearly 19-hundred contractor resources, so this includes line mechanics, vegetation specialists, logistics coordinators, and damage assessors to name a few,” said Cahill.

Cahill says trees that were not damaged during Hurricane Laura are still vulnerable and with Delta trailing so close behind they might not survive a second storm.
