Starting this week, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will have a new format for state identification cards and driver's licenses.

Louisiana State Police Spokeman Nick Manale says they are changing the format for these items, including handicap placards, to increase security.

Manale says the changes are being made to increase privacy, security and to make it harder to someone to tamper with them.

The new changes will be phased in across the state during the next six to eight weeks.

You are not required to get a new ID car or driver's license until yours expires.
