The State Bond Commission has approved the sale of bonds to help give the Cajundome a facelift.

The facelift includes lower level seating, replaced lights, re-coated roofing, and updated restrooms and concessions.

The State Bond Commission authorized Ragin Cajun Facilities Inc., a nonprofit corporation established to help build facilities for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, to sell up to $20 million in revenue bonds to design, renovate, equip and furnish an upgrade to the Cajundome arena.

The Cajundome started construction in 1981, and was opened in 1985.

Cajundome director Greg Davis says that the telescopic seating that is there now is so outdated they don't even make the parts to fix them anymore.

Some work, like the re-coating of the roof, can begin soon. Most of the interior work will be done over the summer.

The Cajundome will be closed starting in May, after graduations, and stay closed until October for renovations.
