A 21-year-old woman was found dead overnight near the pond in a drainage ditch at Girard Park in Lafayette.
Lafayette Police responded to the 400 block of Girard Park Drive regarding a missing person’s report around 12:10 a.m. Spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton says a complainant told officers that the victim, who was a friend, was supposed to meet them on Stewart Street in Lafayette, but never showed up.
Cpl. Mouton says the complainant last spoke with the victim at around 8:30 p.m., then three hours later a male subject answered the victim’s phone when her friends called her, telling them he had found the phone in Girard Park. That’s when the friends went to the park, recovered the phone from two male subjects and found the woman’s vehicle. Then police arrived and found the victim’s body.
Cpl. Mouton says investigators have not yet determined the cause of death.
