Join in the festivities for the 50th annual Memorial Day Celebration beginning at noon, Monday, May 26 under the live oak trees at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 2300 N. University Ave. To be honored is John "Jack" Henton, Jr. (d.) as the 2014 Distinguished Veteran of the Year.

Entertainment will be provided by members of the renowned Destination Choir of Destiny of Faith Church who will sing their renditions of military selections.

Other announcements will include the unveiling of three upcoming projects at the cemetery:

1. The unveiling of the architectural rendering of the Veteran's Section at Greenlawn, modeled after Arlington National Cemetery. This section will be exclusive to United States Veterans and their spouses.

2. The unveiling of the architectural rendering of the completion of two existing mausoleums, adding 180 new mausoleum crypts.

3. The establishment of a Memorial Tree program in conjunction with Norwood's Orchard, in which survivors can plant a tree in memory of their loved one, and have a bronze memorial marker on a stake placed under the tree. The first Memorial Tree will be dedicated to the Jack Henton, Jr. family as the 2014 Distinguished Veteran of the Year.
