11-Year-Old Girl’s Close Encounter with a Shark Sends Her Scrambling to Safety on Shore
Video shows the moment that one young girl got the scare of a lifetime as she swam in shallow ocean waters. Just as the 11-year-old approached shore on her board, a fin popped out of the water and sent her scrambling to safety.
Some families make their summer memories with trips to the beach. Kids get out in the water while parents hang out in the sand and relax for a nice vacation.
But for one family, the moment got as far from relaxed as possible when an 11-year-old girl came just a few feet away from being face-to-face with one of the ocean's most feared creatures.
Reports say that the moment occurred in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The 11-year-old's mother just so happened to be videotaping when the shark's fin appeared out of nowhere.
While the young girl did scramble to get out of the water, the report adds that this didn't prevent her from getting back in the water. "She's nervous for sure, but we know that we're in 'their home', so we'll continue to swim with caution, the mother reportedly told a news outlet.

Remember that no matter where your summer vacation takes you, if you are in the ocean - you are swimming with all of the ocean's creatures. Whether they are near or far, they are around.
In fact, one Florida sheriff's office recently issued a warning to beach-goers regarding the abundance of sharks that had been spotted in the Gulf of Mexico.
So while you should most certainly enjoy those beach vacations, don't forget that your fun-in-the-sun comes along with sharing the water with sharks and all other creatures that call the ocean home.
