Bryan Singer, who directed the first two X-Men movies, and is in the director's chair for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, tweeted out something today that got comic fans' immediate attention. Not only will the next X-Men movie be coming out in 2016, but it will be the Apocalypse storyline! Keep reading for more details.

From /Film:

That sounds like the film will follow the Age of Apocalypse storyline from the 1990s in which more time travel (Days of Future Past has time travel) creates an alternate timeline and an immortal villain named Apocalypse reigns havoc on the X-Men. Think the Thanos of the X-Men storyline.

What’s also interesting about this, besides the massive scope, is Apocalypse was introduced in X-Factor, a comic book that brought the original X-Men team members — Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman, and Jean Grey — back together years after Grey was thought to have been killed. This could be a way for Jean Grey and Cyclops, who aren’t in X-Men: Days of Future Past, to come back into the mix, either played by James Marsden and Famke Janssen, or recast.

What do you think about the way the next X-Men movie is looking to go?
