According to a certain website, Louisiana will be one of the last nine states to legalize marijuana.

Even if the federal government repealed marijuana prohibition, state laws criminalizing users, as well as the plant, will still be in effect in some states.

The article points out that Louisiana has some of the country's harshest marijuana laws, including up to 20 years in prison for repeat possession offenders and up to life in prison for pot possession if the person has a previous felony. Salon referenced an October 2014 poll showing that roughly two-thirds supported fixing those laws.

Other states that may hold out on legalizing marijuana include Alabama; Idaho; Kansas; North Dakota; Oklahoma; South Carolina; South Dakota and Utah.

State lawmakers will consider passing legislation this spring that will put possession, distribution and dispensing of marijuana and its derivatives on the Louisiana ballot on Nov. 8, 2016.

What are your thoughts? Should Louisiana hurry it on up, and get to decriminalizing marijuana, or should they take their sweet, sticky time?
