White Stripes Call It Quits

The White Stripes have officially announced that they are breaking up. The duo broke the news on their website, saying they “will make no further new recordings or perform live.”

The pair attributes “a myriad of reasons” for the split and says it’s “mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.” News of the split caused the band’s website to crash, as fans flocked to the page to read the posting. When we spoke to Jack White back in 2008, he was hopeful about making the follow-up to what is now their last studio album, Icky Thump. It appears we will not hear that new effort.
