‘Where Stars Flirted with Local Girls’ – Louisiana’s Early Hollywood Moment
Have you ever heard of, or seen, the plaque embedded into a sidewalk in Morganza, La commemorating "Where Stars Flirted with Local Girls"?
Melancon's Cafe - Where Stars Flirted With Local Girls
In the late 60s, Hollywood descended on Morganza, La, and descended in a big way.
The movie "Easy Rider" and its star-studded cast of Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, and more set up shop in Morganza to film what would become what many say is one of the most important movies in the history of Hollywood.
In a diner scene from "Easy Rider" filmed in Morganza, La, Nicholson, Fonda, and Hopper pull into Melancon's Cafe for a bite. The locals don't take too kindly to the out-of-town long hairs, but the local girls sure do.
A plaque was made and embedded into the sidewalk at Melancon's to commemorate that scene.
Melancon's Cafe was located at 181 LA-1 in Morganza, LA.
Although Melancon's Cafe was torn down in 2002, there's a plaque embedded into the sidewalk where it once stood.
Pay attention if you're looking for it because if you blink you'll miss it.
From roadsideamerica.com -
"A vacant lot is all that remains of Melancon's Cafe, where Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Jack Nicholson flirted with local girls in a scene in the 1968 film Easy Rider.
The cafe was torn down in 2002, but a granite marker was installed flush with the sidewalk out front on Nov. 18, 2010, calling attention to the historically important site."

The plaque also pays homage to the local stars that were involved in "Easy Rider" as well.
