Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo To Star In Sitcom About His Own Life
For Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, the line between art imitating life and life imitating art is about to become even blurrier.
Deadline reports that 'Psych' creator Steve Franks is collaborating with Cuomo on a TV pilot for 'DeTour,' a sitcom about a rock star who struggles with his fame and walks away from music to "rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success."
The plot will be based on Cuomo's real life experiences -- including when he took a sabbatical from the band eight years ago to become a full-time student at Harvard, where he had attended off and on from 1995 to 2006. While there, Cuomo lived in the dorms, ate in the cafeterias and even unsuccessfully tried out for the chorus. The show would "mirror and embellish Cuomo’s journey with a fictional character and his small band of misfit friends."
Franks will write and executive produce the comedy for 20th Century Fox with Tagline Television's Chris Henze (who also worked on 'Psych') and Willie Mercer.
Weezer also just revealed a snippet of a new song from their upcoming album, 'Everything Will Be Alright In The End', which is due for release on Oct. 7. 'Go Away,' which features Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino, can be heard below:
