Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo Sells Semi-Biographical Comedy To Fox TV
Remember when Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo took a sabbatical to finish up his degree at Harvard? He's sold a comedic TV show to Fox called DeTour that's all about his time there!
I don't know about y'all, but I think this has potential. Especially if you kinda know the story.
Cuomo went to Harvard on and off from 1995-2006. He finally took some time off from Weezer to really get in there and finish his degree. From what I remember he sold most of his possessions, and moved into the dorms, ate in the cafeteria, the whole nine yards.
The show will be a single camera shot comedy, a la The Office.
Here's the synopsis of the show from Deadline:
DeTour centers on a thirtysomething rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.
And here's some more about what Cuomo really did, as to what the show will be about:
To complete his bachelor of arts in English, Cuomo took a sabbatical from his successful rock career eight years ago to return to Harvard full time, living in the dorms and eating in the cafeteria. He tried out for the school choir and didn’t get in, he made friends, met his wife, and went on to graduate Cum Laude. The series would mirror and embellish Cuomo’s journey with a fictional character and the small band of misfit friends that make it possible for one another to get through these formative years.
Would this be a show you would watch?
