Weapons Used By Vlad ‘The Impaler’ Dracula Unearthed In Bulgaria

The real - life Dracula had scarier weapons at his disposal than long canine teeth.

The guy most historians and scholars agree was the inspiration for Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's legendary novel was Vlad Dracula III, best known as 'Vlad The Impaler.' He gained that nickname for his preferred method of torturing his enemies,  the gruesome details of which you can read about here.

Vlad Dracula was responsible for the deaths of around 80, 000 people, 20, 000 of which he had impaled. However, impaling required a captive person. Vlad had many of these at his disposal after defeating his enemies in traditional combat. These battles were fought with various weapons, including medieval canons called culverins. Archaeologists recently discovered a number of cannonballs that were fired by culverins belonging to Vlad Dracula's army. According to Archaeology In Bulgaria via Fox News, the cannonballs are believed to be from Vlad's siege and conquest of the Zishtova Fortress in the winter of 1461.
