Originally it was predicted that we would have an average to below average season. That's not the case anymore.

In it's updated prediction for this hurricane season, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that we will likely see an average to above average hurricane season.

Their previous prediction saw a possible 10-16 storms. Now, with the updated prediction, there is a 70% chance that we will see between 12-17 storms. Between 5-8 of those will become hurricanes.

On average, the US sees an average of 12 named storms, with six of them being hurricanes.
