The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns received a verbal commitment from one of the top high school defensive backs in the state of Florida over the weekend.

Cornerback Amir McDaniel, from West Florida Tech in Pensacola, Florida, became Louisiana's ninth verbal commitment for the 2019 signing class.

A First Team All-State selection as a junior last season, McDaniel compiled 68 tackles and seven interceptions for West Florida Tech, a 5A school.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound McDaniel chose the Cajuns over the likes of Georgia Southern, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Troy and Kent St, after visiting Lafayette on June 23.

McDaniel joins E D White (Thibodaux, La.) athlete/receiver Grandon Legendre, Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, La.) quarterback Chandler Fields, Neville (Monroe, La.) offensive tackle Logan Newell, Mcdonough 35 (New Orleans, La.) safety Jaden Henderson, South Oak Cliff (Dallas, Texas) cornerback Bobby Holmes, Spring (Texas) High quarterback Clifton McDowell, Glendale (Arizona) Community College receiver Brian Smith and Chalmette (Louisiana) High offensive tackle Nathan Thomas as UL football verbal commitments.
