Tropical System Forecast To Move Into The Gulf This Week
Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center have both hands full of tropical weather systems to keep tabs on during this, the peak of the Hurricane Season. Right now forecasters are monitoring potential tropical trouble spots across the Atlantic Basin and Tropical Storm Gabrielle too.
The tropical system which is garnering most of the attention across the Gulf South is an area of disturbed weather located over the Bahamas this morning. This surface trough of low pressure is interacting with an upper-level system and is forecast to cross over the Florida peninsula and be in the very warm waters fo the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days.
As of now the probability that this system will develop into a tropical cyclone are very low. They are listed at only 20% between now and Saturday. However, the conditions for further development are expected to improve over time once the system has moved into the Gulf.
While development in the Gulf of Mexico is not imminent at this time it would probably be a good idea to stay close to us as we watch this system over the next several days. Hopefully, it will not develop into anything more than just a rainmaker but if it does get stronger the system's close proximity to the coast will make time of the essence should you need to react.
