Robin Williams touched many a person with his spectacular performances. But here's a few touching things about him that you may not have read in the news.

From his quirky, fast, amazing comedy performances to his dramatic, emotional roles, Robin Williams was a performer that everyone could love.

To think about how a person's brain can work so fast when he'd switch characters in the middle of a performance, to all the things he was saying. It would sometimes take my own brain time to catch up on what he just said.

His mostly ad-libbed role as Genie in Aladdin was amazing as a child (and I'll admit it...it's still great as an adult). And who can forget Hook? The man embodied the grown-up Pan!

His dramatic roles in movies like Good Will Hunting (which he finally won an Oscar for), and the AMAZING Dead Poets Society are some that will stand the test of time. (Sidenote: he was creepy as hell in One Hour Photo)

[Note] There's really too many great roles that he had throughout the years to put all in one post. I really could go on and on. So I'll get to the meaning of the headline.

While being in the entertainment business, it's easy for people to only see you in a certain light. The spotlight. They only know of you through magazines, internet sources, and so on. Many people don't get to know the true you. They don't get to know the good deeds that aren't reported.

You may or may not know the story of Williams and Christopher Reeve. He and Reeve were good friends after having studied at Julliard together. They stayed good friends until Reeve's death in 2004. Here's what Williams did for Reeve after his horse riding accident that left him paralyzed from iMDB:

One week after Christopher Reeve's tragic horseriding accident, Robin visited him in the hospital. However, he was dressed from head to toe in scrubs, spoke with a Russian accent, and had a surgical mask on. He was acting as if he was a real doctor and did a bunch of wacky antics. After he took off his mask, Reeve stated that, "That was the first time he laughed since the accident!".

One thing we did know about Robin Williams is that he cared about our troops. He did many a performance for them overseas to do what he could to lift their spirits. Here's one story that didn't get reported on that touched a little closer to home for me than usual.

I didn't learn this story until my cousin posted it to Facebook yesterday after hearing of Williams' death. It's a personal story of his:

Everyone knows I don't write much on here, however I was on my way home from Iraq for 2 weeks leave, we stopped at the airport in Ireland to refuel. It was around 2 am and the airport was empty. A second plane landed and when they got off the plane it was Robin Williams, Leann Tweeden and John Elway. Robin Williams started engaging us soldiers in conversation and started doing impressions and a stand up routine. He was an amazing man and will forever be great full (sic) for that memory. Not many deployment memories are great but that one I will never forget. RIP Robin Williams. May God have mercy on your soul and I'm praying for you and your family.

Knowing he performed for the troops is one thing, but to hear it being said in that light, and from a more personal note made it that much more special. The post was linked to this video

It's quite obvious that Robin Williams cared about other people's happiness. That's what makes his death that much harder on everyone, especially those who knew him.

With all of this being said, please, if you are struggling with depression, drug/alcohol abuse, mental health or addiction, reach out for help.

Another source to get a more personal experience from Robin Williams is reading his AMA on Reddit. It's his personal answers and stories from questions asked by people who aren't writers for news sources or magazines. It may answer a question that you had. I will warn that it may get a little NSFW due to language.

Rest in Peace, Robin.

“Please, don’t worry so much. Because in the end, none of us have very long on this Earth. Life is fleeting. And if you’re ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day, make a wish, and think of me. Make your life spectacular.” - Robins Williams in Jack
