The Louisiana Tech men's basketball program is getting a big name to help the new head coach as Tim McGraw has been named Special Assistant to the Head Coach.

Who would've thought that the country singing superstar even knew anything about coaching hoops?

(Oh, wait, what? Wrong Tim McGraw? Ahhh.)

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, apparently two people can have the same name in this world. The Tim McGraw that the Ruston-based school just hired is apparently someone with no singing credentials, yet instead, is a bonafide legitimate basketball coach...who just happens to have a cool name.

The less-famous Tim McGraw has spent the past 25 seasons as the head coach at Dallas College-North Lake. Just last month Coach McGraw led the Blazers to the NJCAA Division III national title.

This new hire is part of a revamped Bulldogs coaching staff that saw the departure of last year's coach (who took the Tulsa job). The new head coach is former Texas Tech assistant Talvin Hester.

Hester brought in Tim McGraw to his staff for all the right reasons.

“Tim is a mentor to me,” said Hester. “He is a guy that has won for a lot of years. There are not many guys you come across that have won four national championships at any level. I felt like it would be great to have him be part of the Bulldog Family and be by my side in my transition as a head coach.”

In 2021, Hester was inducted into the National Junior College Association (NJCAA) Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

The singing Tim McGraw will just have to settle with being a pretty legit actor coming off his starring role in the Paramount series "1883."

He's also heading out on a headlining tour in a couple of weeks. The "McGraw Tour 2022" begins on April 22 and runs through June 4.
