This Hilarious ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Line Was Written by a Make-a-Wish Kid
Looking at Facebook or Twitter or even casting so much as a brief glance at news headlines has become a daily source of despair. So if you’ve done any of those things today (and you totally have), you’re probably in the market for something a little more warm and fuzzy. Enter Chris Hemsworth with a heart-melting revelation about one of the funniest lines in the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok.
The scene in question occurs early on in that trailer, as Thor enters the arena lorded over by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), who pits prisoners against one another in super-charged gladiator-style combat. When Thor realizes that his opponent is Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, he gets excited and shouts, “I know him! He’s a friend from work!” It’s exactly the sort of humor you’d expect in a movie directed by Taika Waititi.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth revealed that the line was actually written by a kid who had been granted a visit to the Thor: Ragnarok set from the Make-a-Wish foundation. During a break between takes, Hemsworth spoke with the kid, who suggested the line “He’s from work!” Since Waititi encouraged the cast to improvise the majority of their dialogue, Hemsworth was able to give that line a shot, and it (obviously) panned out — and undoubtedly made their young guest of honor’s visit all the more special.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
