I spend the weekend in Austin, TX for an Anime convention. While driving there on Friday, there was a stretch of highway in between Houston and Austin that is all Texas country. I jokingly told my girlfriend that you don't take a wrong turn in these parts because turns like that are like the start of horror movies.

Since we were in rural Texas, I immediately thought of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was just waiting to take a wrong turn and pull up on the old Sawyer farmhouse. As the convention went on, I started thinking about where the 1970s classic was filmed. I had heard that it was somewhere in central Texas.

After a little research, I found out that it wasn't far from us at all. Actually, it was right next door to our hotel! We stayed at the Marriott in Round Rock, Texas on La Frontera Blvd. The site where the farmhouse was during filming was located on Quick Hill Road, which was one block over from La Frontera Blvd.

I drove over to the site, got out the car and took a couple pics!

Unfortunately, the farmhouse is no longer located on the property. It was moved in 1998 to Kingsland, Texas where it is now a restaurant. But this is the land where Leatherface chased victims through the trees at night and where every scene outside of the house and in the house was filmed.

Needless to say, being the film lover that I am, it was quite the experience to stand on the land that one of the most iconic horror movies was made.
