Authorities in the Franklin-Baldwin area are asking motorists to avoid unnecessary travel in the area.

This morning, Mayor Julius Alsandor asked residents to turn off faucets that may be dripping or running due to the sub-freezing temperatures.

LUS, Entergy and SLEMCO have all begun rolling blackouts across Acadiana and Louisiana as the winter storm continues to create a strain on power grids across the state.

As we sit in the middle of a bitterly cold and wet workweek, a trio of energy companies are asking their customers to conserve energy.

Winter Storm 2021 has had such an impact on our lives - affecting our roads of travel, closing businesses, and even causing power outages, just to name a few.

The Atchafalaya Basin continues to be closed after freezing rain accumulated this week.

As of this writing (Tue, 2/16 at 5:00 am), they are only about 2,000 residents in all of Acadiana that are without power.

Boil advisories and conservation requests have been issued and made in two parishes in Acadiana.

Things are just different right now.

As Lafayette braces for more record-low temperatures tonight, LCG is keeping the parish under curfew until tomorrow morning.

Officials say normal service will resume as of February 22.

The curfew begins at 6 o'clock tonight.

Bottom line: don't let the melting snow/ice/slush become a false indication that things are safe. As long as temperatures are near freezing, danger lurks.

The kids and the parents both seem to really enjoy the experience here and memories were certainly made all across south Louisiana...

The Eunice City Marshal took advantage of icy conditions in the yard and started to ski down his own driveway, but he did not use any traditional ski gear.
