UL Lafayette

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette announced today that they will be closed on both Wednesday, August 26th and Thursday, August 27th due to Hurricane Laura. Classes will resume remotely on Friday, August 28th.

The earlier start date is one of several changes the University has made to its academic calendar as it prepares for the safe resumption of on-campus instruction and housing and residential life in the fall.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and other institutions are making plans to get back to normal classes in Fall 2020.

Prospective graduates were told the news in an email from UL Lafayette President Dr. Joseph Savoie.

Authement was the longest-serving university President in the nation at his retirement in 2008.

No classes are scheduled Monday and Tuesday, but the campus will remain open.

Out of concern for the recent coronavirus outbreak, UL has released a statement on remote classes.

On July 14th, 1898, Louisiana Governor Murphy J. Foster signed the establishment of what would become the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Of this year's freshman class, there are 114 high school valedictorians.

Homecoming Week (Oct. 31--Nov.5) activities and events include a traditional Homecoming Day parade, a pep rally, and a tailgating party.

In the 1960s, USL Men's Basketball coach Beryl Shipley stepped out in a big way against the South's unspoken rules on athletic integration. Losing was just not something Shipley was OK with, and he did everything he felt he could to be a winner. The story is being made into a documentary called "Lights Out In Blackham" and it looks absolutely amazing.

Spring Commencement is today for University of Louisiana Lafayette graduates. Ceremonies will take place in Lafayette's Cajundome and Convention Center

Voting is now open for Lafayette, up for 'Best Southern College Town' in the new issue of Garden & Gun magazine. Voting for round 1 ends on March 20.

The school maintains its Carnegie Foundation designation among the top five percent of research institutions in the nation.
