Jon Stewart said goodbye to The Daily Show last night in equal parts star-studded and quiet, personal fashion as former correspondents like Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Olivia Munn returned to pay their respects, while Bruce Springsteen closed out the slow with a performance — at Stewart’s request — of his 1999 song “The Land of Hopes and Dreams” and, for his fellow New Jerseyan, “Born to Run”.

Now that President Obama has come and gone, Jon Stewart’s final round of Daily Show outings will bring out a few more big guns to help send him off. Among the sure to be extensive list, we already have top comedians (and near successors) Amy Schumer, Louis C.K. and even Denis Leary booking slots on Jon Stewart’s final run.

Just when we thought the state of Comedy Central’s late-night lineup had settled, following Larry Wilmore’s ‘Nightly Show’ takeover from ‘The Colbert Report,’ ol’ Jon Stewart done spun us about once more. Word has come in that ‘The Daily Show’ host announced his retirement during tonight’s taping, ostensibly after Stewart’s current contract.

Earlier this week we saw Stephen Colbert beginning to shed his 'Colbert Report' character with a first stop on David Letterman's standing 'Late Show,' before Colbert's takeover in 2015, but both Colbert and his character will enjoy a long victory tour before moving to broadcast. I watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart every day, and if I miss it, it's being recorded. After the September 11th attacks, The Daily Show came back on the air after being off for a few days. The most memorable thing about it was Jon Stewart's heartfelt opening monologue. It's something that everyone should watch. Take a few minutes of your time today and view this amazing monologue.
