Benedict Cumberbatch is a man of many hats. Mainstay of the British theatre scene, unlikely Hollywood heartthrob, prestige-picture leading man, mystical off-beat superhero, and of course, the noted lizard alien’s greatest performance of all has been the years-long charade of human actor “Benedict Cumberbatch...
Sherlock Holmes isn’t generally pop culture’s go-to for a dashing hero, but once upon a time, neither was Benedict Cumberbatch. Now, Sherlock creator Steven Moffat jokes that even Cumberbatch’s mother thought he was wrong for the part, also providing an update on those ever-swirling final season rumors.
We already know Avengers: Infinity War is going to be huge, with the current MCU arcs building toward a crossover event that promises to be the studio’s biggest yet — even bigger than Captain America: Civil War. According to previous comments made by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Infinity War will feature dozens of characters from the Marvel universe, including Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. As for the rest of the lineup, we can only make educated guesses, but a new casting call may have spilled the beans.
By now, you know (and have probably seen) Doctor Strange, the 14th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But did you know that attempts to make a movie about Doctor Strange date back decades before Iron Man? In 1978, they even made a Doctor Strange TV movie, in an attempt to recreate the successful formula behind the popular Incredible Hulk TV show. That’s just one of the “strange” facts featured in the newest episode of You Think You Know Movies!
On my Marvel Unlimited app, I’ve been slowly working my way through the very first Doctor Strange comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, which originally appeared in the pages of the appropriately named series Strange Tales. At the time, of his introduction Dr. Strange was a backup feature in the book, which was primarily devoted to the solo tales of Fantastic Four member the Human Torch. The stories of these early Strange adventures are pretty hit or miss (one involves a haunted house which is not haunted but is actually - SPOILER ALERT - a house from another dimension. ) but the artwork, even in the earliest issues, is just fantastic. Ditko (who also co-created Spider-Man with Lee) had this amazing conception of alternate dimension and realities that was just incredible.
The 'Doctor Strange' casting has come full circle. After a series of stops and starts (we're looking at you, Joaquin Phoenix), Marvel has returned to one of the very first actors they had their eye on for their upcoming superhero movie: Benedict Cumberbatch. Deadline is reporting that the 'Sherlock' star is in "final negotiations" with Marvel to star in 'Doctor Strange' and, presumably, a number of other big 'Avengers' style crossover movies.
When 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt filmed his acceptance of the ALS Ice Challenge, we all thought he had beat the internet. Blue Ice vodka? Smirnoff Ice? Genius! However, that was until the great and playful Benedict Cumberbatch stepped up to the plate and filmed the greatest response to this viral phenomenon to date.
I always get a big laugh out of impersonations, especially impersonations of people that are difficult to impersonate. On Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, his guest was actor Benedict Cumberbatch, and Fallon found out that Cumberbatch does the best impersonation of Alan Rickman, who was a guest on the show earlier in the week.
