After the historic flooding in South Louisiana, officials with the state are encouraging residents who were affected be the recent flooding to pre-register for food benefits with the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

From KATC.com:

DSNAP provides food assistance to eligible households who do not receive regular benefits and need help buying groceries following a disaster.

The best way to pre-register is online at www.dcfs.la.gov/preregister. However, residents can also call, beginning Tuesday, August 16, at 1-888-LA-HELP-U (1-888-524-3578) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Households that receive regular SNAP benefits and live in parishes where DSNAP is activated will automatically have supplemental benefits added to their cards if they're not already receiving the maximum allotment.
