A source who spoke under anonymity says that Rankins suffered the fracture during training camp on Monday.

Rankins went down, and was hauled off the field on a stretcher at training camp in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The Saints haven't disclosed Rankins' injury, but the source says that he was diagnosed with a fractured fibula. He also says that the first round draft pick is seeking a second opinion, as it appears he will need surgery.

Fibula fractures typically are not season ending, but will sideline a player for over a month.

This isn't good news, as Rankins was drafted 12th overall, and was looking to improve the Saints struggling defense.
