The most frightening thing you'll likely encounter this Halloween evening is not a ghost or a ghoul asking for treats at your door. It will most likely be the screech of severe weather alerts going off on your radio or your mobile phone.

Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed much of Louisiana in the enhanced risk of severe weather category for later today and into this evening. The catalyst for this potential severe weather outbreak is a cold front pushing across the Great Plains and Texas.

This frontal system should spark strong storms in the Acadiana area shortly before midnight tonight. There is a very strong likelihood that severe weather watches or warnings for strong thunderstorms or tornadoes could be issued for the area over the next 24 hour period.

As of now the timing of the forecast should keep Trick-or-Treaters warm and dry for the early part of the evening. There will be a threat (30%-40%) of a scattered shower or thunderstorm during the hours specified by most communities for Halloween activities. However, most of the forecast models do not bring the heavier storms into the area until 10 PM or later.
