State of Emergency Declared for Lower St. Martin Parish (Updated)

UPDATE: Because of the rising river levels and recent heavy rains, St. Martin Parish President Chester Cedars has declared a State Of Emergency for Lower St. Martin Parish.

According to a press release from the St. Martin Parish Government, there is an imminent threat of flooding in Stephensville and Belle River that can cause flooding and subsequent damage the lower part of the parish.

Effective immediately, Bayou Estates Subdivision and Four Mile Bayou are closed to all non-resident traffic. The following streets also remain closed as well:

• Adell Street
• Edna Street
• Landry Road

UPDATE: St. Martin Parish Government has announced the following roads are closed until further notice due to rising water:

• Adell Street
• Edna Street
• Landry Road

Officials ask residents not to sightsee or attempt to drive around barricades and/or signage that has been put in place. And please do not try to drive through standing water on the roads.

As we sit in the middle of another round of heavy thunderstorms, the St. Martin Parish Government wants its citizens in the lower portion of the parish to know that they are making sandbags available to them.

Stephensville Park is acting as a self-service location now that the sand has arrived. Wednesday morning, additional public works personnel will be on site.

As of now, government officials are not expecting sand to be needed for residents in upper St. Martin Parish. But, government officials say they are monitoring if that need changes or it the threat of high water intensifies and calls for the need to put into place more comprehensive measures.
