New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson was honored this morning with the unveiling of a statue of himself on the steps of the Superdome.

The bronze statue overlooks Champions Square, and stands at 17 feet tall! The suit wearing Benson can be seen with a smiling face as he holds the Lombardi trophy over his head. It will be a lasting reminder of the great things Mr. Benson has done for the people of New Orleans as a sports owner, businessman, and philanthropist.

Artist Brian Hanlon, who crafted the Steve Gleason statue, sculpted the Benson statue.

After a slew of speakers, including Gov. Bobby Jindal, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Coach Sean Payton, and more, Benson was said to be visibly moved by the unveiling.

“That's real nice,” Benson, the Saints' owner since 1985, said while sobbing. “I never thought this would happen. I'm so pleased. Thank y'all very much.”
