Saints Open Season Against Cardinals

The New Orleans Saints begin their 2015 regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon, when they hit the road to take on the Arizona Cardinals in an NFC showdown.

Kickoff time at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona is scheduled for 3:05 pm, and you can hear all the play-by-play action on ESPN 1420, as well as 97.3 The Dawg.

The game marks the first of six-consecutive season-opening match-ups that the Saints will play against teams from the NFC.

New Orleans went 7-9 in 2014, good enough for second place in the NFC South, while Arizona finished in second place in the NFC West, with an 11-5 mark.

The all-time series between the two franchises is tied, 13-13, with New Orleans winning the last meeting, 31-7, back in 2013.

Offensively, the Saints averaging 25.1 points-per-game in 2014, averaging a league-best 411.4 total yards, including 297.8 passing yards, and 113.6 rushing yards-per-game.

New Orleans is led by quarterback Drew Brees, who threw for 4,952 yards and 33 touchdowns, running back Mark Ingram, who ran for 964 yards with 9 touchdowns on 182 touches, and receiver Brandin Cooks, who compiled 550 receiving yards, along with three touchdowns, on 53 catches, in 2014.

The Cardinals, offensively, averaged 19.4 points, 319.8 total yards, 238.0 passing yards, and 81.8 rushing yards a contest last season.

Arizona is paced by quarterback Carson Palmer, who passed for 1,626 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

Defensively, the Saints gave up an average of 384.0 yards-per-game, which ranked 31st in the league a season ago, while the Cardinals allowed 368.2, which ranked 24th.
