Nothing is official yet, but several sources are reporting that the New Orleans Saints will release veteran wide receiver Marques Colston.

Mike Triplett from ESPN.com cites a league source when saying that the Saints will likely cut Colston in the coming days.

Rand Getlin of the NFL Network tweeted this:

Colston joined the Saints in 2006 when he was drafted in the 7th round, 252nd overall. He became a beast of a player, one of the most productive in the NFL, and the Saints all-time leading receiver.

He had six 1,000 yard seasons, with a career total 9,759 overall receiving yards.

This past season, however, Colston struggled to stay healthy, which caused his productivity to fall.

The 2016 season is the last on Colston's contract. He is scheduled to earn $3.2 million under his current contract. If the Saints cut him, they could cut his cap hit from $5.9 million to just $2.7 million. This, of course, would help out in getting some things done in the offseason for the Saints.
