The New York real estate heir, who was arrested in New Orleans on weapons charges, has copped a plea.

This year, everyone was talking about Making A Murderer. Last year, it was The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst.

Robert Durst, the focus of last year's HBO documentary, was arrested in New Orleans on weapons charges back in March of 2015, has pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted a 7 years and one month prison sentence.

Durst's arrest came after police tracked him down to a New Orleans hotel where he possessed a .38 caliber revolver after being convicted of a felony. This all happened on the eve of the finale of The Jinx. He was formally arrested on the morning of the airing.

The plea bargain brings Durst one step closer to extradition to California, where he is wanted in the death of his friend, Susan Berman.

Durst has waived extradition, and says that he wants to go to California to stand trial and prove his innocence. He will not be immediately sent to California, at least until his sentencing in New Orleans.

US district judge Kurt Engelhardt said that he will provisionally accept the plea, and make a final decision once the pre-sentencing report is given to him in about two weeks.
