River Phoenix died of a drug overdose in front of The Viper Room some 18 years ago. He was working on a movie at the time called Dark Blood. Of course it's kind of tough to finish a movie when your lead actor dies in the middle of filming. But ala The Crow, director George Sluizer seems to think after all this time that he indeed does have enough scenes with Phoenix filmed, 'cause he's planning on releasing it next year...Guess who he's getting to do the voiceover!

Now that the spirits haunting the print have been adequately dispelled, Sluizer is working at assembling a finished cut of Dark Blood using his footage and some new, expository voice-over that will likely be provided by Phoenix's brother Joaquin. In the film, Phoenix plays a young hermit living on a nuclear testing site when he encounters a couple (Jonathan Pryce and Judy Davis) looking for shelter; eventually, he enters into "a troubled relationship" with the wife. Sluizer's hope is for a release sometime next year, finally giving River Phoenix a slain rapper-like posthumous career to match Joaquin's fake rapper-like made-up career, complete with guest vocals.
