Louisiana Ragin' Cajun quarterback Jordan Davis is leaving the football team, according to a source close to the situation.

Davis, who threw for 117 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's Vermillion vs White Spring Game, has one year of eligibility remaining.

After redshirting in 2014, the Spring Hill, Texas native appeared in 3 games in 2015, playing his most extensive action in the season finale.

In 2016, he served as the primary backup to transfer Anthony Jennings. He appeared in 7 games.

He began the 2017 season as the starter, missing 2 games due to an injury, ending the season with 10 game appearances, 10 touchdown passes and 5 touchdown runs.

Dave Schultz was first to report Davis' decision on his twitter account.

Davis' departure leaves Louisiana with two quarterbacks who started games last season in Levi Lewis and Andre Nunez, as well as Dion Ray and Jake Arceneaux. Kadon Harrison is also listed as a quarterback on the roster, though he played at wide receiver in the Spring Game.

UPDATE: Davis released the following message on his twitter account, regarding his decision.

I would like to first off start by saying I am very grateful and thankful for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette with providing me with the opportunities and the experiences that I have had within these past 4 years.

These memories and experiences that I have been through the past 4 years will stick with me for the rest of my life and (I am) thankful for the many relationships that have been built throughout my experience. I want to thank both coaching staffs: past, and present, with providing me with opportunities that I dreamed of. Y’all pushed me and developed me in many ways, not only as a football player, but as a man and I am better because of it.

To my teammates, this was not an easy decision. I want to thank all you guys for the many exciting and amazing memories we created together, I love all of you guys like my brothers and will keep every one of you guys in my prayers. You guys are like brothers to me and will FOREVER have a special place in my heart. I know y’all will go on to do great things! I will always support you guys!

To the Ragin Cajun community! What an amazing tight-knit community with amazing people who genuinely care about the people within. I am so thankful to have been a part of this community. I’ve had so many amazing memories at Cajun Field because of you and will miss everything about it!

With that being said, I felt like this was the best decision for me and my future. I will be possibly transferring and furthering my education at another institution to get my Master’s Degree. I will always remember my Cajun family and the memories that I shared with the great people over here, I love and thank you all.
