Who couldn't use a lot of extra cash during this, the season of giving? I know if I was fortunate enough to score a large lottery win two weeks before Christmas those on my gift-giving list would certainly reap the benefits. We can only speculate what the owner of a ticket purchased for last Saturday night's (12/12) Powerball drawing must be thinking this morning.

The ticket now valued at $50,000 by lottery officials matched four of the five white-ball numbers for the Saturday night draw. The ticket also matched the Powerball. In other words, this person was one white ball number away from a quarter of a billion dollars. But, let's not look at what we don't have and focus on the gifts we are about to receive.

According to the Louisiana Lottery website, the $50,000 winner was purchased at Winn-Dixie Store 1433. That store is located in Covington Louisiana on Highway 21. If that's where you bought your ticket you might want to double-check your numbers. Here they are according to the Powerball website.

If you're holding the ticket in question make sure you sign the back of it. That way the cash prize can't be given to anyone but you. You'll also need to reach out to the Louisiana Lottery. They will explain how you can exchange your winning ticket for the prize money that is owed to you.

By the way, both the Powerball and Mega Millions lottery games have top prizes that are now well over a quarter of a billion dollars. The next Mega Millions drawing is on Tuesday night. The next Powerball drawing will be on Wednesday night.
