The annual Sonic Christmas Parade in Lafayette has quickly become one of my favorite parades in all of south Louisiana.

The number of participants seems to increase each and every year, and I absolutely love seeing the marching bands and dance teams in the holiday spirit.

Something else that has seemed to increase with the annual Christmas parade in Lafayette is the number of people who line the streets to view the parade.

I am told that this year's parade may have been the most attended in a very long time. People lined the streets from downtown Lafayette to the Oil Center and there were very few breaks in the crowd along the parade route.

This is all because of how well this parade is put together. The parade has grown and more and more people are coming to Lafayette to see it.

With that said, there is ONE thing I'd suggest we add to the Sonic Christmas Parade in Lafayette and that is barricades along the parade route.

Yes, the same barricades you see along the streets for Mardi Gras and other parades in Lafayette.

As the crowd has grown for the Christmas parade so too has the number of folks who run into the street to retrieve things like candy, beads, and yes small toys.

While I was watching the parade this year on Jefferson St. in downtown Lafayette, I saw a number of drivers have to quickly stop because someone was in the road. The last thing we want is for someone to get hurt while at this magnificent parade.

Other than barricades missing, the annual Sonic Christmas Parade is PERFECT. The music is fun/festive and everyone always seems to be enjoying their time in the parade.

Personally, I can't wait to attend the parade again in 2022.
