One man is dead and another was injured after a boat capsized in Lake Pontchartrain on Thursday morning.

According to Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), a skiff boat and crew were overdue into a Slidell port on Thursday morning so a search was begun.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office along with the U.S. Coast Guard searched the lake Thursday morning after the boat was reported overdue.

After a three-hour search, agents would recover the body of 72-year-old Ricky Hodgson around 9:30 am. A second person on the boat was injured and is being treated.

LDWF officials say that Hodgson and a passenger were fishing for shrimp around midnight when their net got stuck. Both men attempted to get the net unstuck when a wave hit the boat and it capsized.

Both men were not wearing flotation devices.

LDWF will handle the investigation into this incident.
