NOLA Archbishop: ‘Alligator Acceptable During Lent’
In a letter dated March 3, 2010, Jim Piculas of Covington received exciting news from the Archbishop of New Orleans: "Alligator is acceptable during Lent".
According to the letter, Archbishop Gregory Aymond (in his reply to Piculas, an alligator farm owner) said that the alligator is considered a part of the fish family.
"Yes, the alligator is considered in the fish family and I agree with you, God has created a magnificent creature that is important to the state of Louisiana and it is considered seafood." - Archbishop of New Orleans
This is not necessarily new news, but it is a great reminder of the bounty of our area and its compatibility with our religious culture.
Fried gator, anyone?
